Spell&Speak App Reviews

Needs more voice options

Very difficult to understand the words. Even "best voice" has an English accent which is very difficult to understand,

Waste of money!

This app is a piece of crap. It literally does nothing. It just opens and thats it. Save your money! Its junk!!

Do not buy

Do not buy. Does not read back typed words.... Basic function is lost and the "games" are junk. Not worth a dime

Needs some work

It does sound like the original voice. I saw that it had an alternative voice that would be easier for the kids, but I dont think that voice is very easy to understand. I cant find any directions so maybe there are settings that Im missing but if so, it looses stars for not being intuitive. The original machine had modules for different word lists. You could also cycle through several lists in the machine. This appears to only have "Spell A" single list. This list goes from the word "to" to "thorough" in the same list, its not practical for my 6yo and just frustrates him not to use it. It would be nice with this new technology to allow the parent the ability to edit, or at least control, the word lists.

Love it

Bring back so many memories!

Nostalgia!

Very well done....takes me back to my childhood.

Faithfully replicated

I played with a real Speak & Spell only a few years ago, and this is exactly as I remember it. Great!

Perfect! Just like in third grade...

Love the clearer annunciation present in this version.Nails it! Well done:)

A Powerful Machine

Back then, it was real. I bought it for the "memory." A very good friend indeed.

Nostalgic

The improved voice has a strong British accent, so the original voice is actually better for correct American English pronunciation if you are using this as a learning game for a child.

Great rendition of an old friend.

I loved my Speak & Spell so I was thrilled to see a few apps out there emulating it. This app is the best, spot on and even has the original button types. Cant wait to share some memories with my kids.

No Good at All

Too hard to understand no matter which voice you use. Im glad my childhood memory was worth $1.99, this app surely isnt.

Great App

My sister had this game and this app reminds me of those times. Id be interested in the speak n math which is the game I had as a child.

The real deal

Perfect reproduction. Kraftwerk fans will recognize the voice and beep tones from "Computer World"

Works best on iPad

The keyboard is WAY too small on the iPhone. It is very hard to type. Works fine on the iPads bigger screen.

Worst app ever

Believe the reviews about it being hard to understand. I thought it said spell pull so I put poll and it was incorrect so I put pole and it said no the correct spelling is t o o l. But even worst is the buttons on the screen are so small you can barely push them to spell the words, they are a third of the size of the buttons on my iPhone keypad. You almost always hit the wrong letter but most of the time when I hit the buttons it says nothing at all. This is a complete scam. I want to know how to get money back.

Childhood

This takes me back to my childhood when my uncle bought it for me and my brother.

It works i guess.

Waste of an app and 1.99. I was bored after 30 seconds. I dont really remember the old one but i basically just wanted to type and have it read words but it doesnt. Has different "game modes" but really boring.

Awful App

Voice is perfect, but it cannot "say" anything you want it to. It just asks you to type words it tells you to type. Hard to type on small letters. Should never have been allowed to be put on App Store. Rip off. I want my money back!!!!!!!

Classic

This is the classic speak n spell in all its unintelligible glory. I appreciate them keeping the same sounds, but the original voice is a little rough for a default. It wasnt until after I played for a while, gave up and wrote a review and read some more that I found a way to change the voice into a more modern one. Its hidden under the # key on the keyboard.
